Why Good Website Design Matters for Every Business in Cape Town Nearly every business or individual working in Cape Town has a website, regardless of whether it’s a blog or a proper site. Sadly, a shocking number of these websites are poorly designed, or come straight off a WordPress template with zero customisation. This is definitely not going to help you stand out, get ahead or set yourself apart. Great website design is a must in today’s highly visual market. The way your site looks, tells users whether they want to interact or do business with you in mere seconds. Think of your website as your virtual business premises. After all, it really is your digital real estate. You wouldn’t expect high-end clients to drive to the shoddy part of town to do business with you, would you? One glance at a poorly designed website can turn a serious prospect into a person that closes the window and never comes back. Here is why great web design matters for all companies in Cape Town, regardless of the industries they operate in. First Impressions Matter The design and placement of elements on your website should take hours, if not weeks or even months. However, whether it works or not is decided in an instant. That first impression from a new user determines if and how they continue to interact with your website, business or brand. A visually pleasing design helps that first glance to last longer, and it certainly retains users and cuts down that ever-important bounce rate. The visuals that grab the most attention in the shortest amount of time include a strong image or illustration, sharp contrast, or something that is rather unusual on the screen. This can include a phrase or some wording that is memorable. Eye tracking studies are fascinating sources of information to help you plan a wireframe that users will be drawn to. We’ve included elements that people often tend to look at first, when they hit a landing page: • Main graphic or image, especially if it’s large or oversized. • Logo or branding. • Main navigation to get an idea of what the site contains. • Written message or text in large lettering. • The website’s footer or contact information. Your Business is the Image it Portrays When you’re in doubt, just take a look at the websites that you love. Do you know what their websites and brands are about? Or do you only think you do? Each good website is about the image it portrays. Strong visuals with an organised, clean design lend legitimacy to a website. When executed well, these elements can also help to establish trust in your brand, which is especially important if you’re trying to convert leads into sales. Users associate the experience they have on your website with the experience they have with your business in person. A chaotic design or a haphazard look to your website can relay the message to visitors that you do not care about the appearance of your business, which tells them a lot about other aspects of doing business with your company.
